- A Bloody Elopement: The Daltons of Apethorpe and the Battle of Beams by Douglas Arden [2010] (page 13) A raid on a manor house in 1347 which aimed to abduct an heiress went seriously wrong. The account unfolds the complicated background, the battle and the consequences in extraordinary detail. This saga undermines the idea that medieval history must be boring. The enormous cast of characters involved include people connected with Apethorpe, Brampton, Holdenby, Kislingbury, Spratton, Stowe Nine Churches, Thorpe Waterville and Woodford Halse.
- A Poaching Incident at Sudborough, 1837 by F J Mayes [1982] (page 325) Detailed account of a battle between gamekeepers and poachers which resulted in three of the latter being imprisoned and one found dead.

- Ekins v Ekins - a Victorian divorce and its aftermath by Francis Howcutt [2024] (page 61) Records generated by the Court of Arches and other sources document the unhappy marriage of William Ekins of Brixworth and Anne Matthews, the procedure by which it was terminated in 1840 and the varying fates of the parties.

- Tragic Honeymoon by Gyles Isham [1950] (page 6) On 9 February 1824, Caroline Isham and Thomas Welch Hunt were married at Polebrooke. They travelled to Italy where on 3 December of the same year they were shot by brigands, neither surviving.
