One of the advantages of redevelopment and construction projects is that they can create opportunities to dig up the past and provide the money to pay for it. We have tracked down a large number of reports from excavations across the county which will be of particular interest to people living or working in the localities involved.
Organisations and journals
- Council for British Archaeology - Northamptonshire is one of the counties covered by the Index to volumes 1-37 of 'South Midlands Archaeology'.
- Higham Ferrers Archaeology and Research Society
- Northamptonshire Archaeological Society - Downloads of many of this organisation's journals and other publications are available free of charge.
- Northamptonshire Industrial Archaeology Group promotes the study of relevant buildings, earthworks, machines, processes and skills. There are monthly winter talks and weekly summer visits to sites of interest - plus a quarterly newsletter.
Specific places
Reports of discoveries at particular sites add much to what we know about the history of Northamptonshire. The places listed here range from ancient fortifications on Hunsbury Hill to a deserted hamlet near Raunds and the site of Northampton Castle.
