The Society is home to some 3000 volumes about the history of Northamptonshire and nearby, along with background material. They are kept in the Society’s part of the building that we share with Northamptonshire Archives at Wootton Hall Park. See our contact page to find information on how to get there.

Access to the Library
You are welcome to visit during the times when Northamptonshire Archives is open to the public (opening hours). If the Society's rooms are not staffed when you arrive, you can ask the Record Office staff to open our door.
Only members of the Society may borrow books from the Library. Please record your loans in the register there and complete the relevant column when you return them.
A growing collection
We have a programme of adding suitable newly-published books to the collection. If you want to donate relevant books that are not listed in the catalogue, please contact us with details by sending an email to

Many of our own publications are still in print and can be purchased. A substantial proportion have been digitised and can be downloaded free of charge. You can find details about them as well links to a host of books, articles and theses published by others at:
