This volume contains letters from five different series concerned with the affairs and estates of John, 2nd Duke of Montagu (1690-1749). The letters illustrate some of his interests (like the gardens at Boughton House) and some of his problems (often financial), as well as how he tried to reassert some of his ancestral rights. The letters throw much light on life at Boughton and the surrounding area that is of general interest as well as dealing with the management of the estate.
